Military Chaplains
coming soon…
On April 14, 2026, the Minister of Defence of the Kingdom of Belgium, Mr Theo Francken, proposed that the Anglican Church in Belgium will receive two full-time Anglican military chaplains by January 2028.
Anglican military chaplains will be appointed by the Central Committee of the Anglican Church in Belgium and must hold a license from the canonical authority of the Diocese in Europe (Church of England) or the Convocation of Episcopal Churches in Europe (Episcopal Church of USA).
who are military chaplains?
Anglican military chaplains provide spiritual, ethical, and psychological support to all military personnel and their families. They will work together with the Belgian Ministry of Defense’s Religious and Moral Assistance Service (SARM). It includes chaplains from various faiths (Catholic, Protestant, Orthodox, Jewish, Muslim) as well as secular moral counselors, ensuring a pluralistic approach, including during interfaith ceremonies.
