Chrism Eucharist in Brussels

On Wednesday 1 April 2026, Central Committee and AIB staff, as well as a contingent of Anglican prison chaplains in Belgium attended the annual Chrism Eucharist which was hosted at Holy Trinity, Brussels. This service draws together Anglicans from across Europe in preparation for the Holy Weeks services. Each year, representatives of different ministries - lay ministers, deacons, priest and bishops - are invited to re-commit themsemves to this work in the world. It is always poingnant when a lay member of the congregation asks the bishop to renew their episcopal vows. During the service, the bishop blesses three oils: baptism, unction and chrism which the clergy then take with them for their own parishes. Honourary bishop in the Diocese in Europe, Bishop Michael Langrish led the service and preached about the meaning of olive oil as a metaphor for faith and ministry. After the service lunch was provided by Community Kitchen.
